The Prairie League grew out of the remnants of the North Central League, which in 1994 was one of the first independent leagues in North America. The North Central League and the Prairie League concentrated on the forgotten territories of the old Single-A Northern League and also included quite a few ballparks from Saskatchewan which was quite exciting. The Prairie League was a bold effort to bring pro ball to some great communities but ultimately failed. Some of the ballparks of the Prairie League would wind up in the Northwoods League while others would never see organized baseball ever again.
