The Capahas meanwhile, are an amateur baseball team that have used this park since
before the Fairgrounds grandstand was built in 1911. In fact, the Capahas first
took the field in 1894 which makes them the oldest amateur team and they are
very much still a part of baseball lure around here today. The team has produced
a few future sports legends … not just baseball… including Priest Holmes and
Johnny Roland for football, Kenny Schrader in Nascar and in baseball… local legends
of the St. Louis Cardinals, Tommy Herr and Mike Matheny to name just a few.
