Located in Canton Ohio stands a 5700 seat monument to Thurman Munson… Canton’s favorite
son who died tragically while piloting a plane in his hometown. At the time
of his death, Thurman Munson was one of the great players of Major League Baseball,
and he was such a strong leader that the New York Yankees named their
catcher, as their Captain. Munson was a tremendous player from the start, winning
a Rookie of the Year award before going on to have 7 All-Star seasons culminating
in a 1976 season in which he would be awarded the American League MVP. |
