The Cincinnati Reds had a new ballpark built for them in Plant City in 1987 and the
Chicago White Sox in 1988 in Sarasota. When a new super stadium was built in
Tucson in 1998, the Chicago White Sox abandoned their Sarasota stadium for the
new Tucson Electric Park. Sarasota meanwhile, was a year older... thus a year
more modern, so the Reds abandoned their Plant City Stadium for the one year newer
ballpark in Sarasota. Plant City has never had a Major League team since the
Reds left in 1998. There is talk in Sarasota meanwhile about tearing down Ed
Smith Stadium for a newer facility. |
