Photographs courtesy of the Paul Hamaker Collection When the Pilots returned from Arizona, they found that the work at Sicks Stadium hadn't been completed. Tickets had been sold for seating that didn't yet exist! Some fans had to wait outside while bleachers were finished being installed. Of the 30,000 seats promised, only 17,000 were actually ready. The stadium wasn't expanded to 25,000 until June, and even then those seats were obstructed. The final straw came when construction on the new dome was postponed due to lawsuits and petitions. Fans hated the idea of coming to Sicks Stadium for Major League Baseball and without a dome, the team was doomed. |
