Just like in 1946, the first two games were pitching duels. Bob Gibson kept the Red Sox to only 6 hits in a 2-1 victory in game 1. Jim Lonborg threw a no hitter for almost 8 innings for the Red Sox in game 2. (Yaz would homer twice). When the series went back to St. Louis, the Cardinals dominated the Red Sox winning the next 2 games easily. Jim Lonborg however, came back in game 5 with another 2 hitter for the Red Sox. The Red Sox would refused to lose game 6 and give up the ring. 3 Red Sox hitters went deep in the 4th inning to help an 8-4 win. Again, it came down to a deciding 7th game against the Cardinals.
