Photograph courtesy of the Dan Bretta Collection The Tigers were back for another 3 seasons in Toledo. The MudHens played under .500 for all 3 years and drew apathy from the crowds. Swayne Field barely broke 100,000 in 1949, and finished under 100k in 1950 and 1951. The Tigers pulled out in 1952 leaving the team as an independent co-op. After drawing only 40,000 fans by mid-season, the MudHens pulled out of Toledo and moved to Charleston West Virginia. Swayne Field spent the rest of the season vacant from professional baseball for the first time since 1915. |
