In January of 1995, the new "Stadium Alternative Task Force" recommended that a new
.01% sales tax pay for a new stadium. Unfortunately, that didn't go over very
well, and was defeated in September of 1995. The state legislature got a little
more creative and increased taxes on food & beverage, rental cars and ballpark
admissions. On October 25th 1995, the King City Council approved the motion
and Safeco Field would become reality. |
