Baseball in Omaha Nebraska had been played for 30 years at Vinton Street Stadium. That all changed in 1935 when Vinton Stadium burned to the ground. Vinton was the only ballpark in the city of Omaha and the team didn't have a place to play. Just across the Missouri River in Iowa however, was a perfectly useful (and surprisingly never utilized) ballpark. The Omaha Packers moved to Council Bluffs after Vinton Street burned and renamed themselves the Council Bluffs Rails. They continued to play here for the Class A Western League, until the season ended, at which point the team folded.
