In 1958, a bit of excitement began to stir when was announced that the Three-I League was expanding into the Northwoods territory. Winona's beautiful wooden ballpark was under considertion but sadly would be overlooked. Expansion teams were finally granted to Green Bay, Appleton and Rochester's Mayo Field. Green Bay and Appleton had pretty good seasons considering how bad most Minor League teams were drawing in 1958... 63,000 for Green Bay and 58,000 for Appleton. Consider that this was the peak of television's impact on baseball (and all other entertainment that would cause someone to get off their couch and shut off their new T.V. set).
