Bender Park's first season was in 1955 as a Longhorn League entry. The Hobbs Sports were the first professional team in Hobbs since the Hobbs Boosters played for the West Texas - New Mexico League in 1938. The new Sports would play mediocre baseball putting together a 62-77 record under manager Pat Stasey, landing them in 6th place. In 1956 under the newly renamed "Southwest League", the Sports would join the Washington Senators organization and play as a Class D franchise. Under the Senators umbrella, Stasey would lead the team to a 1st place finish with a 90-52 record. Unfortunately, they wouldn't get out of the 1st round of the playoffs.
