The Mets made another run at the playoffs in 1980, led by Brian Giles (30 2B, 10 HR, .286), Ron Gardenhire (.258) while being joined on the mound by Tim Leary (15-8, 2.76), Jesse Orosco (4-4) and Terry Leach (5-1, 1.50). They would only make it to the 1st round before being eliminated. Perhaps the biggest prospect of the future 1986 Mets would come to Jackson in 1981 but he wasn't a player or a pitcher. The Jackson Mets were led by manager Davey Johnson who would lead the Major League NY Mets to the infamous 1986 World Series.
