It was around that time of Smith-Wills Stadium's completion, that the New York Mets
were hunting for a new stadium to move their Double-A operations to. The team
had been bouncing around from Tim McCarver Stadium in Memphis to Riverside Stadium
in Victoria Texas, not really finding a place that would "stick". They
would come and visit the new ballpark here in Jackson and know that this is
what they were looking for. They signed a long term PDC in 1975 and Jackson would
become the home of the Double-A Mets for 16 long years. |
