Jackson wouldn't remain vacant for too long. By the beginning of the next season, the indy leagues were more than happy to pick up the slack. For the independent Texas Louisiana League, this was a great opportunity to add a Double-A stadium to its roster which already included Alexandria, Amarillo, Lafayette, Harlingen, Greenville MS, Ozark MO and San Angelo. The new Jackson DiamondKats took to the field in 2000. They were led by former NY Met Mark Carreon who hit .340 for Jackson. The team finished dead last with a 38-74 record. Jackson fans weren't quick to embrace the team either drawing only 37,000 fans.
