In 1996, the Generals were back on top, led again by Russ Johnson (15 HR, .310),
Hidalgo (34 2b, 13 HR, .294) and Mora (.286). Manager Dave Engle would return them
to the top of the Texas League for the last time. John Halama (9-10, 3.21)
and Rich Loiselle (7-4 3.47) led the team on the mound as they won their 2nd Texas
League Championship and the 5th for Jackson overall. A monster slugger came
to the team in 1997 when 22 year old Daryle Ward hit a ball so hard, it went "through"
the outfield wall for a home run**. Ward would hit 25 doubles, 19 HR and
bat .329 on the season. **from www.baseball- reference.com |
