More of the Mets future came to Jackson in 1987. Future prospect and doubles monster Gregg Jefferies, would hit 48 2 baggers, 20 HRs and hit .367. He was joined by Steve Phillips who would hit .218 and go on to become the Mets GM. Future Oakland A's GM Billy Beane had also played for Jackson 3 years earlier and hit 20 homers while batting .281. The Mets had made the playoffs 8 years in a row by 1987, winning the championship 3 times but the talent was becoming less and less every year. They would spend the next 2 seasons in 7th place.
