Fairgrounds Field with its huge press box and enclosed bar behind home plate, and long rows of stands running down the lines looks amazingly similar to Toledo Ohio's Ned Skeldon Stadium, and was a tremendous improvement on the old SPAR Stadium. With an easy location, just off of I-20, Shreveport instantly fell in love with Fairgrounds Field. In 1986, the Captains pulled in 183,000 fans… more than they had drawn in the previous 4 seasons combined. It was because of Fairgrounds Field that the Giants and the Texas League would continue to call Shreveport home for the next 17 years.
