For their first 5 years, the Oilers played above .500 baseball, and made the playoffs for 4 straight years from 1935-1938. It was in 1937 when they finished in 3rd place that they were able to pull off a coup and win the Texas League title. In 1940, the Oilers got their first affiliation since coming to "Texas League Park" as it was known then, when the Chicago Cubs signed the Oilers up for a long term PDC. That PDC unfortunately would be interrupted in 1943 because of WWII.
