Mountain Kennesaw Landis had put out the word in 1943, that due to travel restrictions... there would be no warm and sunny days in Florida and Arizona for the next 3 years. All teams had to suspend their contracts with their current Spring Training homes and scramble to find usable facilities, for what would be... a very cold February and March. The Dodgers went to West Point in Bear Mountain NY who offered both a field and an indoor complex to train in. The Choate School in Wallingford Connecticut offered the same thing for the Braves. The Indians
went to Perdue University and the Reds went to Indiana University. The Philadelphia A's had already taken over the local ballparks in Frederick MD and Wilmington DE so the Senators decided to go the way of the Braves, Dodgers, Indians and Reds and seek out a local college with possible indoor facilities.
