It was 1949 and the St. Louis Browns were enjoying the post-war boost that baseball was receiving, when it seemed that family and honest American recreational activities had become the forefront of this country's focus. Television wasn't quite the national phenomenon that would make us forget about baseball and forget about leaving the comforts of our living rooms for our entertainment quite yet. The ballpark was the meeting place for family and friends and the center of social activities.
