Paterson Field inherited from the Cramton Bowl, a position in the Southeastern League… a league which often-times would run into financial and stability issues, often suspending operations for a few years at a time. When Paterson Field joined the league, those issues had become chronic. The new stadium immediatley got the interest of MLB as the St. Louis Cardinals moved their Class B franchise to Paterson Field. The team played good baseball… finishing 3rd and making the playoffs. It was the "swan song" for the league however. The problems inherent within the SEL had grown too large, & the league folded after the 1950 season.
