The Southern League (then called the South Atlantic League, unrelated to the South Atlantic League of today) quickly came calling, inviting the new 7000 seat Paterson Field to join the future Double-A system. The Montgomery Rebels would replace the Greenville Spinners who had been playing at Meadowbrook Park in South Carolina. The new Rebels didn't carry an affiliation with them during their first season in the SALLY (Southern) League, that didn't stop them however from having a tremendous season. The Rebels put together an 85-55 (.607) record behind Manager Charlie Metro.
