The stadium looks massive and in many ways it is. It is built to a Triple-A standard 10,200 but has always hosted Double-A baseball. Joe W. Davis Stadium has the look of a municipal stadium and it is. The ballpark was built for $3 million by it's owner… the city of Huntsville. In many ways this stadium harkens back to the 1930's when many stadium were built to host both baseball and football. Because of this, a lot of the older styled ballparks are "J"
shaped. A long 1st or 3rd baseline (3rd base in this case) and a shorter adjacent side (1st base) is due to it configuring well for football as well as baseball.
