New Orleans professional baseball meanwhile had its own facility. The Southern Association
team, "the Pelicans" had been playing for over 4 decades at Heinemann
Park (aka Pelicans Stadium), located at Tulane and Carrollton. Pelicans Stadium
was bought in 1957 and demolished to make way for the construction of Foutainbleau
Hotel. Without a place to play, the Southern Assocation turned to New Orleans'
other famous stadium… Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park. |
