Charlotte wasn't nearly as good in 1947, going 72-68 (.514), 16 ½ games out of 1st
place, but that was still good enough to make the playoffs. 116,000 fans came
through the gate (putting them in the middle of the pack). Sammy Meeks' 191 Hits
and Robert Callan's 3.08 ERA would lead the league as Charlotte ran over 1st
place Spartanburg in the 1st round of the playoffs. Another intense championship
series would follow but Charlotte had experience in that category. It would
take all 7 games but Charlotte would again come out victorious and bring their
2nd straight title back to Crockett Park. |
