When the Hornets returned from the war in 1946, they immediately began to dominate the brand new Tri-State League. Facing teams in Asheville, Spartanburg, Knoxville, Anderson and Shelby… the Hornets put up a powerful 93-46 (.669) record. Attendance at Charlotte soared over 100,000 as 111,000 fans came through the gates. Charlotte beat Shelby 4 games to 2 and then faced an intense 7 game series with Knoxville that would culminate in the Hornets bringing their first ever championship to Crockett Park. Al Kvasnak led the league in Runs with 101 while Sonny Dixon led in Wins with 19 and Alex Zukowski led in ERA with 1.41.
