Joining Myers in the rotation was the talented group of Kevin Brown (15-7, 2.74... not "that" Kevin Brown), Dave Jensen (11-6, 2.99) and Floyd Youmans (12-3, 3.42). This starting core along with Magadan, Hollins, Lyons and Springer combined to win 88 games, going 88-54 for an excellent .620 winning percentage. Unfortunately, the Gastonia Expos (who didn't feature a single future Major Leaguer) would provide a tremendous upset in the finals eeking out that final win against the Columbia Mets and bringing their tremendous season to an anti-climactic close. Still it was a good year for this franchise as the team drew 111,000 this this little rickety ballpark. There was obviously some interest in professional baseball again after 22 years and the Mets would go on to remain at this ballpark ... and the newer Capital City Stadium III for a very loyal 22 years.
