McCormick Field was rebuilt in 1992. The original wooden grandstand, considered to be one of the top classic facilities in the United States, was beginning to show its age. Almost 70 years old, it was becoming a safety hazard. Front office officials promised that the new ballpark would echo the sentiment of the former facility. Many wondered however, whether baseball would ever be the same in this town.
