McCormick Field began in 1924 as a wooden grandstand with a trademark triangular centerpiece. At that time, McCormick Field also had a second roofed grandstand that stood in left field that was nearly as large as the covered grandstand behind Home Plate (doubling the capacity of what the stadium is today).  The ballpark was built into a berm with bleacher seating down the 3rd baseline while the end portion of the main grandstand down the 1st baseline was also uncovered. Two small buildings served as concession stands and ticket booths towards right field. Fans also lined the outfield. This photo from the Asheville Tourists' inaugural game showcases what a fantastic and magical ballpark McCormick Field was when it made its grand opening.
