The Crackers weren't the only team making Atlanta proud in 1938. The Atlanta Black Crackers would win their very first Negro American League Championship... sort of... making Ponce De Leon Park a very successful stadium! The Black Crackers didn't beat their competetors, the Memphis Red Sox. Scheduling issues led the series to be canceled. Memphis and Atlanta were declared co-champions for 1938. The Black Crackers would gladly take it. It was their only Negro American League title. Nat Peeples, Roy Welmaker and James "Red" Moore were their top players.
