By 1950, the $300,000 Waycross Memorial Stadium was entertaining its first Minor League team... the Waycross Bears. The Bears were a co-op team that would spend 6 seasons playing at Waycross for the Class-D Georia-Florida League. They would finish their inaugural season in 6th place in 1950 with a decent showing at the gate... 43,000 which put them in the middle of the pack. Bill Currie was the bright spot on the team racking up 240 strikeouts to lead the league.
