1989 would be the Augusta Pirates best season at Heaton Stadium. The team would win 77 games taking 1st place in the SALLY League. One of their 3rd basemen was Tim Wakefield. Tim would of course go on to become a 15 year Major League star pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. This was a smart move for Tim considering that his Minor League Batting record was .189. He wasn't going to get far as a 3rd baseman. He learned how to throw a screwball however and that would define his career. The Augusta Pirates would go all the way winning the SALLY League Championship
