Portsmouth's Frank D. Lawrence Stadium was built in 1941 and was home to the Class B Piedmont, Double-A Southern League (then called the South Atlantic League), Single-A Carolina and Triple-A International Leagues, meaning that the stadium has served all levels of Minor League Baseball from Single-A through Triple-A (and even the old Class B classification). The facility was meant to host both Football and Baseball and had a significant football grandstand that ran along the outfield along with its baseball configuration (which also held overflow baseball crowds).
