The demolition of Apodaca I and creation of this new ballpark cost the city of Las Cruces $410,000 but ultimately, may have solidified themselves a chance for a long term professional baseball team. Apodaca Park I had mostly been used for high school baseball and professional ball had not been played in this town since 1915 when the Rio Grande Association hosted the Las Cruces Farmers for just one season. Apodaca Park I would show very early on that it was no longer strong enough to support a "packed house".
