Alamogordo has a population of 30,000 and is probably best known for its location to the infamous Manhattan Project which produced the first nuclear bomb... the very first testings of which happened just about an hour north of this baseball park. The White Sands National Monument meanwhile is one of the most spectacular in the world as huge dunes of stark white sand rise 30 feet in the air for thousands of acres. A large park road runs through the dunes and you can actually spend nearly an hour in the car watching people sled and "sandboard" down the slopes as if it were white snow.
