After Katrina had passed, Zephyr Field was one of the few buildings still standing in the area. The ballpark did sustain millions of dollars in damages, but that was light compared to rest of the city. When the team announced that it would continue to play despite the fact that New Orleans was now in ruins, it brought a sense of relief to the city… it was an oasis. It was something to take their mind off all the devastation that surrounded them.
