Zephyr Field's opening was an important one to this city and the baseball fans who live here. New Orleans hasn't really had a permanent home for baseball since Heinemann Park aka Pelican Stadium was demolished in 1957. The city has used Tad Gormley Field in City Park for a few seasons, but that is really a football stadium, and doesn't hold baseball very well. Then they tried the Superdome, but again it was designed for football. They even went to University of New Orleans' Privateer Park for 5 years which was barely big enough to qualify for Single-A ball, never mind Triple-A.
