Born in 1926, this magnificent facility was born as Multnomah Stadium. It was built to serve all sporting events in the Portland area with a seating capacity of about 20,000. Multnomah has indeed served all sorts of sporting events but baseball wasn't one of them when it first opened. The Portland Beavers were actually quite happy with their baseball stadium named Vaughn Street Ballpark... built in 1901 and refused to move here, preferring their 12,000 seat park. In fact, it wouldn't be until 30 years after Multnomah Stadium was built, that it finally welcomed its first professional baseball game.
