The ballpark was set to open in 1939, after the Stars completed one final season at Wrigley Field II. On opening day however there would be no ballpark available as Gilmore Field was still under construction as of April of 1939. The Stars had already taken all of their things and moved out of Wrigley Field II and weren't about to move back again. So... the Stars moved temporarily into the other stadium located on Oil Tycoon Bob Gilmore's grounds... Gilmore Stadium... a football and racetrack based oval stadium that would turn out to be a rather bizarre configuration for baseball.
