The San Francisco Seals had been a part of the Pacific Coast League since the PCL began at the turn of the century. They had been playing at "Seals Stadium" in San Francisco (a rather non-descript ballpark without a roof; very similar in structure to the PCL's Derks Field in Salt Lake City), since 1931. The Giants' relocation to San Francisco meant that they would be taking over Seals Stadium temporarily while Candlestick Park was being built (with lots of 2 x 4's), and taking over the city of San Francisco permanently. This meant the end of the 60 year old San Francisco Seals franchise.
