While it wasn't the classic Rox Park where the Northern League used to play as the St. Cloud Rox Single-A ballclub (which was torn down in 1971), it was in fact built for that old Minor League team as its future replacement. The Rox would play their final season there with the Single-A Northern League folding for good after their first season at Putz Field. In comparison, Dick Putz Field seemed to be well above the quality of many other Northwoods League ballparks (such as Manitowac).
