In 2002, the Northern League announced that in 2003, they would be moving their Duluth-Superior Dukes team out of Wade Stadium and into a brand new ballpark named CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City Kansas. The ballpark would be located inside the winding roads of Kansas City Kansas' biggest shopping center... Village West next to the Kansas City Speedway. Because of the late announcement, construction didn't begin on the ballpark until September 2002. It only took 9 months for this ballpark to rise up out of the dirt and become one of the best ballparks in the Northern League. The name of the team would be decided by the fans in a "name the team contest". The name would be one that reflected the "Kansas side" of Kansas City's character... the tradition of the stockyards. The name of the team would be the
Kansas City T-Bones.
