This ballpark was built as part of the WPA projects that built incredible new ballparks all over this country (including a few that are very much in use in the Northwoods League, such as Duluth's Wade Stadium and Alexandria's Knute Nelson Stadium). This one is something special. It is set into a state park that is full of beautiful pines and evergreens that provide a backdrop to right field and the first base line. The park replaced old Chappell Field. We really don't know too much about that ballpark other than the fact that it wasn't much of one. Chappell Field was supposedly a sandy playing field with some makeshift bleachers and a fence around it.
