While the Northern League was not in operation, Wade Stadium would continue supporting professional baseball during the war, in perhaps the oddest configuration we've seen. At the time, Minor League systems ran from Class AAA- Class D with D being the lowest rung of Minor League Baseball. For the first (and only time that we can see), a Class "E" league was begun. It was called the "Twin Ports League" and operated with 4 teams… 3 of which would call Wade Stadium their home ballpark and one other that played in Superior Wisconsin (though we're not sure if they just called themselves the "Superior Bays" & played at the Wade as well.)
