When World War II came to an end and the boys returned from the war, professional baseball leagues swelled their ranks to the point that there were 442 professional Minor League baseball teams in the United States by 1948. Compared that to today as there are now 188 baseball teams in the domestic United States and Canada (including low level rookie leagues who all share the same stadia and excluding independent and foreign teams in Mexico and Venezuela). That is over 250 U.S. cities that had affiliated Minor League Baseball during the late 1940s that today, is without a Minor League Baseball team (exc. independents).
