Three Rivers Stadium was built in 1970 to replace the baseball cathedral known as Forbes Field. This modern stadium would bring the new age of "cookie cutter arena baseball" to Pittsburgh… symmetrical, with fake grass, without character and identical to a host of other stadiums around the league, Three Rivers Stadium may very well be the ugliest stadium ever utilized for professional baseball (despite how nice it may look here in Jerry Reuss' photograph). The success that the Pirates would have here however, would be undeniable.
