Perhaps the most memorable change was the addition of the top hat. While Comiskey had the exploding scoreboard and the Houston Astros had their own version complete with a war cannon run by General Admission (that was his name), the Mets had a top hat. When a Mets player hit a HR, a flashing red apple pops out of the top of the hat to celebrate the feat. In 1998, the Yankees came to Shea Stadium for an emergency home game after Yankee Stadium was shut down (more on that later). Darryl Strawberry, who was now a Yankee, hit one of his trademark towering homers. The apple began to pop out of the hat, then sunk right back down to the delight of the crowd.
