The Mets loveable bunch of mismatched misfits spent their most miserable season at the Polo Grounds... their inaugural year of 1962 when they broke the record for the most losses in a season... 40-120 (.250). When they came to Shea in 1964, they were just as hapless. Marvelous Marv Thornberry for instance, hit a home run and was called out on an appeal to 1st base. When Casey came out to argue, the umpire stopped him in his tracks saying... "Casey wait... before you say anything, Marv missed touching the 2nd and 3rd base bags as well". Casey just slumped his shoulders and walked back to the dugout.
