The Beatles concerts at Shea Stadium marked the first time that a baseball arena had ever been used for a Rock & Roll concert event. It began a historic legacy that would continue on until Shea's final days. In 1969, Shea was rocked by Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Grand Funk Railroad and Humble Pie sold out the stadium in 1970 faster than the Beatles! In 1976 Jethro Tull came to Shea for an amazing performance followed by The Who & The Clash in 1982 and Simon and Garfunkel in 1983. The Police also stopped by Shea in 1983, 12 days after S&G's performance.
