With a new stadium and baseball team for New York City being his biggest priority, William A. Shea abandoned his efforts to create a new Major League. He then shifted his focus on making sure that plans ran smoothly to create a new team for New York. That team would be named the New York Metropolitans (Mets for short), and they would play at William A. Shea Stadium.
